The MSL20122 Certificate II in Sampling and Measurement certification encompasses the competencies and knowledge needed for conducting various sampling and measurement tasks within the context of laboratory, production, or field operations across diverse industry sectors. Individuals in roles such as samplers and testers are responsible for executing limited sampling and testing activities as part of their responsibilities in specific industries. They apply a defined set of skills and operational expertise to complete their tasks and generally do not work within a traditional laboratory environment. Their responsibilities include adhering to established procedures for sampling raw materials and products, potentially handling packaging, labelling, storing, and transporting samples. They use basic equipment like hydrometers, thermometers, and pH meters for measurements, as well as conducting elementary tests that are brief in duration and revolve around a limited set of variables with easily identifiable control parameters. Additionally, they may carry out visual inspections of products and their packaging.

This qualification is aimed at individuals seeking employment as samplers, testers, production personnel, plant operators, production operators, field assistants, drivers, pathology couriers, and a variety of other related roles.

This qualification consists of eight (8) units of competency, of which there are three (3) core units and five (5) electives.
