South Australia - Subsidised Training (STL)

Supported by the Government of South Australia, Skills SA, eligible students can access subsidised training as a Subsidised Traineeship and Apprenticeship (STA), Training Priority (TP), Local Skill Sets or VET for School Students (VSS). The training initiative aims to support individuals to upskill, retain skills and increase SA workforce.

Eligibility

To be eligible for subsidised training, the participant must:

  • Reside or work in South Australia; and

  • Be one of the following:

    • an Australian citizen; or

    • a New Zealand citizen; or

    • a permanent Australian resident; or

    • an eligible visa holder (including State-sponsored visas on a pathway to permanent residency or eligible humanitarian temporary visas as specified by the Minister).

The participant must also meet one of the following:

  • Be 16 years of age or over and not enrolled in school; or

  • Be enrolled in school (Year 10 or above) and undertaking training as an apprentice or trainee under a Training Contract; or

  • Be enrolled in Year 11 or above, aged 16 years or turning 16 in the year of enrolment, undertaking SACE or an equivalent, and accessing training through an approved subsidised school-based arrangement (for example, VET for School Students), having completed any required preparatory VET pathway.

Participant Course Fees

There is a mandatory financial contribution for the Training in the form of a Participant Course Fee by the student, their employer or another person or body. The fee is calculated based on a per-hour rate multiplied by the nominal hours of the enrolled units of competency, and it may vary depending on the industry and qualification stream selected.

  • $1.35 per nominal hour for VET for School Students (VSS)

  • $1.60 per nominal hour for Certificate III in Process Manufacturing

  • $2.00 per nominal hour for Certificate III & Certificate IV level, and Skill Sets

  • $3.00 per nominal hour for Diploma and Advanced Diploma level

Fee Concessions

Participants enrolling into subsidised training may be eligible for fee concession if they:

  • hold a current Health Care Card; or

  • Pensioner Concession Card; or

  • Veteran Affairs Concession Card; or

  • Are a Prisoner

*To quality for concession rates, the student must provide valid evidence at enrolment.

Participants over the age of 16 and who are, or have been, under the Guardianship of the Minister for Education (or interstate equivalent) on any guardianship order, will be eligible for a full fee exemption.
