What is VETiS?

Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) enables students to gain a nationally recognised qualification while completing their secondary education. Students develop practical skills and industry knowledge that support future employment and further education.

ABC Training & Consulting is approved to deliver the following qualification under the Queensland VET in Schools (VETiS) program.

About Our Schools Program

MSL20122 Certificate II in Sampling and Measurement

Our VETiS program integrates into Year 10, 11 and 12 cohorts, combining classroom learning, practical laboratory activities and flexible online theory.

Students develop practical skills in laboratory safety, sampling techniques, measurement procedures, quality systems and laboratory operations while gaining a nationally recognised qualification.

Successful completion of the qualification provides students with valuable industry skills, supporting future education and employment opportunities.

Additional Laboratory Training Options:

In addition to our Queensland VET in Schools (VETiS) program, we also offer the MSL30122 Certificate III in Laboratory Skills to secondary schools on a fee for service basis.

This qualification provides schools with an opportunity to expand their laboratory training offerings beyond the Queensland VET in Schools (VETiS) program.

Schools interested in discussing the Certificate III in Laboratory Skills or other education pathway opportunities can contact our Education Pathways team.

What's In The Water!

We are proud to offer an additional experience for students through our partnership with Sea World. The “What’s In The Water?” program guides senior students in Chemistry, Marine Science, and Aquatic Practices to investigate the physical and chemical factors that sustain healthy ocean ecosystems. Through hands-on water testing, students compare water quality in a controlled aquarium and a natural environment.

Students are encouraged to examine how human activities, especially climate change, affect marine life by altering chemical processes in natural systems. Students will explore the critical role of water as a key abiotic factor, study the impacts of ocean acidification, and learn how monitoring techniques can promote marine sustainability. “What’s in the Water?” integrates relevant chemical, oceanographic, and environmental concepts from the units of MSL20122 Certificate II in Sampling and Measurement.

Day In The Life of a Scientist

The “Day in the Life of a Scientist” program at QIMR Berghofer is designed for Year 10, 11, and 12 students who are considering a career in science. This program provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a working laboratory while interacting with scientists involved in cutting-edge medical research. During the program, students will engage in a variety of enriching activities. They will participate in a hands-on experimental activity in a state-of-the-art education laboratory. Additionally, students have the option to hear from researchers who are at the forefront of scientific discovery and to tour the Institute’s world-class medical research facilities.

The program offers four half-day experimental activities. Students can choose from the following options: Cell Biology with a focus on blood microscopy, Disease studies emphasising antimicrobial drug discovery, Immunology with a concentration on diagnosing Ross River virus, and Genetics exploring DNA and inheritance.

Duration

Approximately 8 months in total, but customisable to fit timeframes.

Face-To-Face Days: 2 days for Certificate II.

Theory Components: Students are guided through the modules using our self-paced online learning resources.

Fees

VETiS funded for eligible students. If students are deemed ineligible, a Fee For Service arrangement of $1900 is available.

Queensland Academy Schools

We are proud to partner with all three Queensland Academy schools to deliver nationally recognised laboratory training to students across Years 10, 11 and 12. Since 2020, we have worked alongside the Queensland Academy for Creative Industries (QACI), Queensland Academy for Health Sciences (QAHS) and Queensland Academy for Science, Mathematics and Technology (QASMT), with more than 1,300 students successfully completing our laboratory programs.

Our partnership includes the delivery of the MSL20122 Certificate II in Sampling and Measurement through the Queensland VET in Schools (VETiS) program, along with additional laboratory training opportunities available through our broader Education Pathways program.

By combining classroom learning, practical laboratory experience and industry relevant training, our programs equip students with the knowledge and technical skills required to pursue further education and careers across laboratory, environmental, mining, construction materials testing, food and manufacturing industries.

Through our ongoing partnership with the Queensland Academies, we continue to provide high quality laboratory education that supports student success and helps build the future workforce for Australia's laboratory sector.
